Luis Rodriguez, who is originally from the Coahuila-Texas border, plays the accordion at parties and special events with another band member not pictured here. This image was taken near Cristo Rey Catholic Church in East Austin, Texas on a Saturday noon. I noticed two quinceañera ceremonies taking place at the church the day I visited.
Rosendo Sandoval painting exhibition at Galeria 409 in Brownsville, Texas. Rosendo’s work is influenced by lyrics found in corridos and other songs dealing with Mexican culture. This subject matter visits the past and tries to connect it with the present. His oil paintings feature plenty of saturated colors.
I attended my first conjunto music festival on Sep 28, 2013 at the Simon Sauceda Auditorioum of Donna High School. The musicians who participated in the festival have ties to Donna, Texas. They include: The Mario Montes Romance Band, The Ayala Brothers, Pedro Yañez among others. I’m working to name each of the musicians in these images.
